The Captain's Log

Wooo I got a lot of awesome stuff on Saturday/Sunday of Fanime, and today I’m gonna get some more. There goes my wallet, shot through with a bullet of fire.

Here’s my spoils so far, and they’ve made me very happy

  • Archeops sprite [gosh its my babu it’s so adorable]
  • Two original artworks from Raizy [creator of Slightly Damned] The Rhea one is going to Zyo!
  • Watercolors of the Bandit Bros by Pogofinity. They remembered me from last year!
  • Two postcard prints from an artist whose name escapes me
  • Art postcards from the creator of Toilet-Genie the webcomic [gosh she was amazing]
  • A commission of Ramen from another artist whose name escapes me ohgoodness I’ll find all these names later
  • BUTTONS GLORIOUS BUTTONS lemongrab and korra. Korra’s was from Bluefox!
  • And a nice big print signed by Yuumei

And tomorrow I may get a gun sniper naomi HMM from the Dealer’s Hall because this year they have zoids oh man! And maybe discounted art if there is any. A follow up summary of the weekend will come tomorrow hopefully!

Illustration for my Government Class.
Our analogy is that Federalism is like a cat owner (Fed. Government) and a cat (States)!

gosh I would actually get a sweater like that.

Art Blocks

teainatalk:

This is some advice or something some artists could look into.

I think that the formidable art blocks happen because artists expect themselves to draw something “well”or “good” and when they don’t get to that expectation, they continuously force themselves to try and make their drawing look “good”, which eventually gives them an art block out of unconcious frustration.

Think of it this way.

It’s like pushing an  engine way past its limit.
You want to get somewhere but you’re pushing the engine to the extreme.
And the engine is sputtering and coughing and straining.
And then it has a break down.
Which is either the art block or really stressful time in art development.

Basically what I think art block is is that it’s really just artists forcing themselves way too hard to make their art match their expectation. They’re flying over the limits, and this causes an art meltdown. This only happens once in a while especially when the artist is expecting themselves to improve in a limited amount of time.

My prescription to this, is that artists should take a breather and step back from art. Do something else, anything else like reading a book or playing games; anything but drawing. Take a break until you feel you’re ready to come back to art. Don’t strain your engine, and when you get back to the arts, try not to give yourself expectations. Just go with whatever you make, and most importantly, breathe and relax. Relieve that stress.

Don’t ever force art for the sake of art in this kind of situation.

/Hope that was helpful for some artists struggling out there! This might not work for everyone since of course, everyone has their own different ways with art blocks, but this could give some ideas to consider.

Posting this on my personal blog in case anyone was interested

Testing PS CS5. It’s wonderful so far and picks up my pen pressure excellently. Also, there’s a blender tool! I’ll be using this from now on, since I am going to college soon and will end up learning about it, so I might as well begin to familiarize with the more up-to date versions.
You can get the free versions of CS 2,3,4 & 5 here! Links are stated to be safe, but just posting this for any of my artist followers who are interested!

New character concept. He’s an owl-creature who doesn’t speak, but is quite a chivalrous man!
He knows how to fence and spar. He doesn’t specialize in cutting things though, he moreso uses his evading and sparring skills to try and disarm the foes. The fellow doesn’t have it in him to harm other beings.
Osmond is mute but his actions speak higher than words.

Silly doodle I did at a robotics competition. I wanted to see if I could draw Sherlock and Watson from memory and in a strange turn of events they became mermen in the process.
